1/21/2025- Canning, dehydrating, freeze drying, oh my!



My sister-in-law and I started canning in 2023. I did the research, bought the supplies and started with canning green beans. It can be a lot of work but it is worth it! I recall my first time using my pressure canner and being scared of causing a massive explosion but it wasn’t as scary as I thought once I did it. The sweet sound of lids “plinking” was a sign that our hard work was a success and I was proud of us. I have also done some dehydrating but I only do certain things like potato slices and kale. In 2024, we decided to invest in a large freeze dryer and that is what I use the most now. I will never claim to be an expert, I have learned everything from reading books, blogs, and joining Facebook groups. I do a lot of research and try new things and have had failures and a great deal of successes. There is still a ton for me to a learn and I hope you can learn something from me and me from you, my readers.
